Giving the exhibitions a web presence they deserve
The Science Gallery has gone from strength to strength since it opened in 2008. Initially, it was hoped to attract 50,000 visitors in the first year. However, it proved to be more popular than anyone expected, with some 120,000 curious sightseers visiting in year one!
Unfortunately the web pages dedicated to the exhibitions were not quite living up to the exhibitions themselves. There was a need to design a microsite which would be re-skinnable to match the brand aesthetic of each show.
X Communications came on board and developed a set of templates which would be flexible enough to represent the various exhibition formats currently in use at the Science Gallery. We designed a listing page for the exhibits which would encourage people to gradually discover what each one is about. Only when you mouse over a thumbnail do you learn what the exhibit is called and who it has been created by, and it's only by clicking through that you discover what it's about.
Visitors to the microsite can also learn about exhibition-specific events, talks, debates and workshops, giving them the chance to get involved.
