We're proud to unveil the new responsive site for Rory McIlroy
X Communications worked with Atomic to develop the new responsive Rory McIlroy website just as he hit number one in the world.
Check out the new website at RoryMcIlroy.com
What We Did
We turned the initial flat design into a responsive website by prototyping concepts and working iteratively with the client to craft a subtle experience that fits in with Rory's new brand identity.
Some of the challenges we faced in making the site responsive included rendering large images and animated vignette text on smaller devices, whilst still keeping them readable and looking good. We also had to manage various animations at smaller screen sizes, either turning them off or adjusting how they worked.
To add depth and fun to the users experience we used many subtle jquery-based animations such as parallax scrolling and horizontal scrolling images and text.
The site had to manage the possibility of massive traffic spikes, for this we used a mixture of orchestra.io and Amazon web services all based on the ExpressionEngine CMS.
